Lift my mood

As posted earlier I have been stuck with studying these past two months. Grey skies and temperatures mostly below 15° Celsius were kind of a bummer and I felt my mood being dragged down by the look outside the window. But what to do when watching movies in bed all day is not an option? I found myself enjoying the little things that surround me even more.

1. I love flowers, especially peonies. These were given to me by my grandma yesterday when I was done with all my exams. Such a nice little gift!

2. I enjoyed my morning coffee even more in this little star-printed cup I bought in Holland while visiting my best friend.
During study breaks I painted my nails in this light pink shade (255)  called “paris in love” by ANNY (get it here.)

3. Details on a pair of shoes I’ve recently purchased from Zara

Pretty pastels 2

I have written about pastels in a previous post (read here ), but when I saw the shoot for the Chanel Cruise 2013 collection, I just had to share it with you.
I’ve always been a fan of Cara, but in this shoot she is just beyond gorgeous.

I’m loving the pastels, however, they often tend to look too sweet and girly. In my opinion Cara’s strong eyebrows and her serious facial expression give the look a certain edge and make the ensemble sort of more “grown up”.

Also I love the little beauty mark in form of the Chanel symbol – it conveys classiness with a fun twist, don’t you think?

Crush On Columbine

I don’t really know under which rock I was living, but it certainly has to be one that’s been ignoring my latest girl crush for way too long.
I seriously don’t know how this could happen but I just recently came across Columbine Smilles blog and since then have been utterly obsessed with her. Not only is she beyond gorgeous, but most of all I adore her style. She dresses elegant yet casual – wearing simple tees, sneakers or track pants but always with a feminine twist.

From April 19th until May 5th she teamed up with Topshop to pick out her favourite pieces (that unfortunately were on display in Topshop Stockholm only). And I must say, I would’ve bought almost every single item! I love the white hidden wedge sneakers, the sequins skirt and the draipy trench.

I wanna know – who’s your current girl crush/style icon?

Cinemagraphs

Excuse the lack of posts within the last two months but apart from studying for my final exams there wasn’t much energy I had left. But, as I finished all my exams just yesterday I’m back on track, yayy!

First of, I wanted to introduce you to an amazing creative duo whose website I stumbled upon quite a while ago but had completely forgotten about.

Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg invented the idea of “cinemagraphs” – an interesting combination of photography and visual graphics. Beck’s photographs become ‘alive’ by the animation of certain elements, for which Burg is responsible. As Coco Rocha said “it’s more than a photo but not quite a video”.

I felt completely intrigued by this new take on photography as it is so unusual and unexpected.

I definitely recommend you check out their website and take a couple of minutes to get sucked into the little details.

fancy florals

I bet you’ve all noticed the floral hype that’s kind of taken over all fashion week and made their way in various forms into blogger’s closets. At first I wasn’t too sure about that whole trend as I’ve never been too crazy about florals, but then this season’s florals are different. The big and bold flowers on a contrasting background take away that girlyness and give it somewhat of an edge.

So when I saw these pants the other day how could I resist buying them?

Now to my question: I have been craving a suit for a while now but never actually purchased one.
They currently have the matching blazer to my pants, but I’m not sure whether I should go for it or stick with the pants.
On the one hand it looks really cool when worn together, but then, how much wear would I get out of it?

(By the way: the blouses are just to give you an idea of how the ensemble might look like, I just couldn’t find the blazer online)

Get them here, here and here.

Today’s details

In my opinion, layering clothing so that it neither makes your body look extremely huge nor incredibly weird is a skill that only few possess. To those I count Bee, who indisputably leads  my personal ranking. Apart from Bee, I also look up to the inventor of the term arm candy Leandra.
Mixing plaid with stripes, gun metal to bedazzled bling and oversized to super tight clothing while looking effortlessly fabulous just really fascinates me.

So here’s my attempt on layering away while still looking somewhat put together.

//plaid shirt: Tommy Hilfiger, knit cardigan: Zara, fur west: inside of a hugenberg parka, studded belt: liebeskind

With that I also wore my vintage black leather skirt that I got in Amsterdam a couple of months ago and my beloved studded boots that you’ve seen in this post.

What do you think of the outcome and layering in general?

Pretty pastels

As promised I will introduce you to my latest purchases categorized by ss_2012 trends. If you’re interested you can check out my post on neons here.

To continue along the road, here we go with pastels.
Pastels will be a huge trend this spring/summer, as shown by Phillip Lim, Givenchy and Mulberry to name but a few.
As these designs are quite unaffordable for a student like me (boooh), I went with a more wallet friendly version. I picked up this minty blazer a couple of days ago and I’m madly in love with the details. It’s unlike any other piece I own, that’s probably what made me go for the color, the cut and the simplicity.

I’d match it to an either all white ensemble, or with a blouse in a complementary pastel shade such as apricot, lilac, mint or beige.

Color me chanel

I must admit I have a slight nail polish addiction, my collections contains at least fifty polishes.
Even tough I usually go for the cheaper nailpolishes when it comes to basic colors (read: black, burgundy, pale pink, clear) I spend a little more on the polishes that are more unique.

A couple of days I purchased the Chanel 509 (Paradoxal) and I love it! It’s a grey/brown base with subtle pink shimmer.

Get it here.
